- there are various flavors but the one I am using is for "tartar control". Its first three ingredients are ground wheat, chicken meal, and corn gluten meal.

She is very finicky about food, even though it is dry. If I made her food myself, there's no sure bet she would eat it. I have given away many bags of Science Diet over the years as I tried different types that she refused. I have a friend with two cats who seem to eat anything!
I adopted her from a shelter - she is part Manx, no tail - and at first she would only eat a Purina product, which is what the shelter was using. It took about a year to get her to eat Science Diet. She is about 13 now. For a short while, some years back, we used the Science Diet "Adult/Mature" variety, and she would eat it, but spit up at least daily.
So if anyone sees a recall of those two - Science Diet Indoor Cat food, or Nutro Max Cat treats - both dry - please post!
Although I suppose even a finicky eater eventually would eat something rather than starve ??

Anna - I'm sorry, I meant to include that I feel for you, with what you're going through with all the new puppies AND this food scare. I know it must be frustrating.

Also - are eggs okay for cats? (I'm pretty sure they're okay for dogs.)
If push came to shove, I might could get Patti Cat to eat scrambled or hard boiled egg ... I've never tried because I always thought that eggs weren't good for them ... Patti is the only cat I've ever had; I actually have had more experience with dogs but haven't had one for years.
Probably terrible for their teeth.
She really turns up her nose at fresh salmon I grill, and chicken or turkey I've just made. The smell interests her, but that's as far as it goes ...
She does like milk, and I know that's a no-no. I give her about a tablespoon 2 or 3 times a year - a real treat!

Oh those puppies Anna !! They are adorable.
What are their names ?
..
I have two fussy eaters who do not eat human food except for tuna, but when I go to get their dry Iams I will check the labels to see where
it was manufactured and just exactly what is in there. When I first got them they were eating a brand that I could only get from the shelter.
Today I will go to the Pet Store and see what they have to say.
.
Switching the food is not a good thing for my kitties, always bring on tummy problems.
Our family doggies ate ppl food until the vet said that wasn't a smart thing. One dog ate ppl food and lived 18 years, the other one ate dog food after about two years of age and lived 17 years.

It took me five dead cats to realize the food from the grocery and pet stores is poison.
Louise,
Many of these are from VETS! One of the Science Diet for felines Prescriptives has been recalled. I do hope it is not the one you use as I believe there should be two of them.
Just as many foods from vets have been recalled as those from pet stores and grocery stores.
And the recalls have apparently just got started good.
Getting the food from a vet is no guarantee just as buying organic does NOT mean the food was even produced in this country.
Wish it were that simple but my vet and I have gone round and round as he sells Science Diet, too, and the prime ingredient in it is YELLOW CORN. My dogs are not cattle and do not need a diet that high in grain.
.
My dogs really react to any food with corn in it. I have one of my male fluffs that has terrible allergies to corn. That being said, my girl fluff has been on science diet CD for several years because of 3 bladder surgerys for stones. (they have removed over 45 stones from her, and this and another very pricey medication is the only thing that seems to help.) we have gone over 1 1/2 years now with out more surgery, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. At over a $1000 a shot per surgery, she is becoming our million dollar dog! But, she is worth that to me, and a lot more. (Bichons are fluffs by the way! )

I guess some of it is my own maternal instinct but if anything happens to these babies, I will have a very hard time dealing with it. They are just too sweet, little puppy breath and all snuggly.
.
Anna, are those Yorkies?

I want to put in a little plug here for Canine I/D and hope I don't have to eat my words later if there's some kind of recall of it.
Both my dogs are rescues who went through some terrible times as pups and young dogs. When we got them, they both had a LOT of tummy troubles. We tried all sorts of food with them, and the vet finally had us try Canine I/D. Since then, there have been no episodes of diarrhea and many, many fewer episodes of vomiting. We feed them a mix of canned and dry, and they really thrive on it. Since it seems to be the only thing they've ever managed to digest, I suppose I'm gonna stick with it unless I hear of a reason not to. Keeping my fingers crossed here.

AZSunny,
No, those are Westies. West Highland White Terriers. Yorkies are mostly black when born. These only come in white and look sort of like Bichons as adults. Larger boned and terriers, however.
OK! ATTENTION!!!
All pets cats or dogs anyway, should be given some probiotics about every 4-6 weeks. I use a gel called BeneBac in 15 ml tube dispenser. It taste sort of like pudding, yes, I have tasted it myself. It's OK for humans.
This replaces the good flora in the digestive tract and helps them digest their food. If the digestive tract is coated with this right stuff, there is little room for the bad stuff and also this is helpful to digest their food. There is another one with some additional enzymes but can't recall the name, it is a powder and I have also use it. And there is one that even has pancreatic enzymes, really good one. Will post if I can remember.
But if you give the dogs and cats this just every few weeks, you will be amazed at how well they do. Sure, many do have serious digestive problems but I use this and give it to the newborns even. None of my dogs ever get sick and for that I am thankful for imagine the vet bill with all these!
This and Omega Fatty Acids oils are the only two supplements that I give every one of mine all the time. They eat any and everything with no problems at all, too.

Pet Owners Likely to Get Little in Suits
Sunday April 1, 1:33 pm ET
By Mark Johnson, Associated Press Writer
Pet Owners Eligible for Little Reward in Potential Pet Food Lawsuits
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Pet owners are not likely to get much compensation if they individually sue pet food-maker Menu Foods over the death of a dog or cat, although they might fare better if they joined forces in a class action suit, legal experts say.
Most state laws consider animals -- even beloved pets -- to be only personal property. That means that even for the loss of a faithful family companion, a successful civil lawsuit would not likely produce much reward, said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond.
"With animals, all you get is the value of the property," he said. "There are no emotional damages."
In early March, Menu Foods recalled 60 million containers of its "cuts and gravy" style wet pet foods, sold under nearly 100 store labels and major brands across North America. It did so after cats fell sick and died during routine company taste tests.
It is not clear how many pets may have been poisoned by the apparently contaminated food, although anecdotal reports suggest hundreds if not thousands have died. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received more than 8,000 complaints while the company has fielded 300,000 calls from consumers. The company has only confirmed the deaths of 15 cats and one dog. There is no central database tracking pet deaths in the United States.
Numerous pet owners around the country have sued or are considering legal action against Menu Foods. Some are seeking class action status.
"I would love to find an attorney to take on this company," said Brenda Hitchcock of Tampa, Fla. Hitchcock said she racked up $4,000 in veterinarian bills trying to save her 5-year-old cat "S.S." to no avail. She said she still has two pouches of the recalled food to prove her case.
Ontario-based Menu Foods has taken a low-key approach to the recall, expressing concern for people who have lost pets and offering to pay veterinary bills if a pet's illness or death can be directly linked to the food, but admitting no wrongdoing.
Jack Hall, a product liability lawyer from Pittsburgh, said the owner of a dog or cat used for breeding or of a specially trained animal could argue for higher compensation on the basis of lost potential earnings.
Hall said pet owners would fare better if they joined in a class action suit.
"I would think this kind of case would allow itself to a class action. That could work for somebody here," he said.
Still, Tobias said even a class-action suit could be tricky.
"The factual variations in the cases will make it very difficult to form a class action," he said. "Will people have the proof they need to trace the harm done to the animal back to Menu Foods?"
Dog and cat food sales in the United States reached over $14.3 billion in 2005, according to the Pet Food Institute that represents manufacturers of commercial pet food.
